How to Optimize a PDF File Online
Large PDF files are hard to email or upload. Fixlytools PDF Compressor re-packs the internal structure of your PDF and removes redundant data, entirely inside your browser. Because it does not re-compress the images inside your PDF, the savings depend on how the file was originally created.
- Upload Your PDF: Click "Choose PDF File" or drag and drop a PDF onto the upload area.
- Optimize: Click "Compress PDF Now" and the tool re-packs the document and shows the original and new file size.
- Download: If the result is smaller, download it. If your PDF is already well optimized, the tool tells you and gives you back your original file unchanged.
Key Features
- Honest Size Comparison: The tool shows the original size and the real size of the file you will download. You never download a larger file by mistake.
- Lossless Optimization: Pages, text, fonts, links and images are not altered. Only the internal file structure is re-packed.
- In-Browser Processing: Powered by the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server.
- Free & Unlimited: No account needed and no file count limits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. PDFs saved with unoptimized structure or duplicate objects can shrink noticeably. PDFs that are mostly photos or scans, or that were already optimized, may not get smaller at all, because this tool does not re-compress images.
Will optimization change my document?
No. Text, fonts, images, hyperlinks and layout stay exactly as they are. Only the way the file is stored internally changes.
Why did the tool say my PDF is already optimized?
The re-packed version was not smaller than your original, so the tool returns the original file rather than a larger one. This is normal for files created by modern PDF software.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, then try again.
Are my PDF files sent to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your documents are never uploaded anywhere.
