Text Diff Checker
Compare two text snippets or documents line by line to highlight additions and removals.
How to Compare Two Texts Online
The Text Diff Checker is an essential tool for writers, editors, developers, and students who need to find differences between two versions of a document, code file, or any text. Fixlytools highlights every addition and deletion line-by-line with clear colour coding — all inside your browser.
- Paste Original Text: Enter or paste the original (baseline) version of your text in the left panel.
- Paste Modified Text: Enter or paste the modified (updated) version of your text in the right panel.
- Compare: Click "Compare Texts" and the tool generates a colour-coded diff showing every line that was added, removed, or unchanged.
- Review Results: Green highlights show added lines. Red highlights show removed lines. Unchanged lines are shown in neutral colour.
Key Features
- Line-by-Line Comparison: Compares text line by line and highlights every addition (green) and deletion (red) clearly.
- Smart Line Matching: Inserted or deleted lines do not make the rest of your text look changed. Only the lines that really differ are marked.
- Works for Code & Text: Use it for comparing code snippets, essays, contracts, emails, or any plain text content.
- No Data Uploaded: Both text inputs are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
- Clear Statistics: See how many lines were added, removed and left unchanged at a glance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of content can I compare?
You can compare any plain text — including code, prose, legal documents, markdown, CSV data, or configuration files. The tool works best with line-structured text where changes occur on separate lines.
How does the colour coding work?
Lines highlighted in green were added in the modified version. Lines in red were present in the original but removed in the modified version. Lines without highlights are unchanged between both versions.
Can I compare files rather than pasted text?
Currently the tool works with text pasted directly into the panels. For file comparison, open the file in a text editor, select all (Ctrl+A), copy, and paste into the appropriate panel.
Is there a text length limit?
There is no hard character limit. Very large texts (hundreds of thousands of lines) may slow performance depending on your device, but standard document sizes work quickly.
Is the text I compare sent to any server?
No. The diff comparison runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text content is never transmitted to any external server.
